Ade McCormack sounds a
much-needed clarion call for IT to "grow up" and become a mature
business function. And he provides a practical management framework and a
rich set of case studies that will help companies achieve that difficult
goal.

About Ade McCormack
Education
Honours degree in Physics with Astrophysics
- University of Leicester, England
Past
The first half of Ades career was spent in
software development. Initially as a real-time software engineer/technical
project manager at Ferranti Computer Systems (three years) and then with Logica
(seven years).
Whilst at Logica, Ade worked with the
European Space Agency, Credit Suisse First Boston, Royal Navy, Coastguard
Agency and the Ministry of Defence. He also had account and line management
responsibilities.
Ade noticed that in general there was a lack
of communication between IT and business people. He also noted during a
particularly bad sports accident whilst in hospital that those working in the
Health Sector consistently exhibited a high degree of professionalism in
comparison to the IT Sector. These observations led Ade to conclude that the IT
industry as a whole was under performing.
Consequently Ade set up Auridian to help
organisations realise the full value of their IT investment. Since 1995,
Auridian has worked with over 500 clients in this respect.
Typical engagements Ade has worked on
include:
- Advisory
- Advising the group board of a global bank on how to encourage
the organisations top executives to use IT to deliver business growth.
- Advising a global staffing company on the procurement of a
number of enterprise wide applications. Also set up a Quality system for
their IT department.
- Coaching
- Working with CIOs to enable them to become more influential in
business strategy.
- Training
- Design and delivery of a programme to help new entrant IT staff
understand the role of IT in a global financial services organisation.
Plus how to be more user-centric in their approach.
- Writing
- Editing and providing customer-facing content for a number of
publicly quoted technology companies.
- Columnist in the Financial Times advising business leaders on
IT issues.
- Public speaking
- Keynote speaker at breakfast meetings on behalf of technology
companies looking to position themselves as thought leaders in the eyes
of their clients.
Interests
Ade is married with one son. He is an
ex-county level sprinter and was once in the top 10 UK rankings for high jump
for under-15 boys. Since then he has morphed into a competing cross-country and
roadrunner.
He also enjoys French jive and ki-aikido.
